The Hunger Games - Create a digital poster

Life for the district 12 was hard because of the wrecked out homes and the clothing was faded the colour in the district 12 was dull, dark for me it looks boring and not fun they went hunting down the forest.




   The arena it is amazing cause it looks like an aeroplane its in the middle of nowhere it makes the viewer think it's dangerous. 











 Life for the Capitol is bright colourful And rich, clean fancy, for the viewer it makes me feel excited and fun the environment is upper class.

Phones can be addictive for some people, for example, I have spent zero hours on my phone in the last week. where' as Bailee has spent 24 hours on his phone in the last week. this would suggest phone use is dependent on the person. Because Bailee spends more time on his phone compared to me he has the least time to socialize with people.

THE THEME OF THE HUNGER GAMES 

The themes are important ideas the film makes us think about.
Some example themes from the hunger games:

• Rich vs Poor
• Struggle for Power

Some themes I noticed:

TASK: Explore each theme by Quote Hunting. Find quotes from characters in the film and explain why they are important in explaining each theme. Present these in a creative way. 

President Snow: Hope, it is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective, a lot of hope is dangerous.  This quote shows Struggle for power, by not wanting the districts to have too much hope he can keep control.

Haymitch Abernathy: You really wanna know how to stay alive? You get people to like you. Oh! Not what you were expecting. Well, when you're in the middle of the games, and you're starving or freezing, some water, a knife or even some matches can mean the difference between life and death. And those things only come from sponsors, and to get sponsors, you have to make people like you. And right now, sweetheart, you're not off to a really good start. This quote shows the struggle for power because in the arena you need people to like you so you can get help to stay alive.

Katniss Everdeen: Take care of them, Gale, whatever you do, don't let them starve!  This quote shows the themes of poverty and leadership it shows this because Katniss is being a leader and making sure her sister is taken care of even though they are very poor.


Katniss Everdeen: I'm never having kids. this quote shows the theme of rich vs poor and poverty we know this because she don't wants her kids to go through what she did

Symbolism in the hunger games is seen when...
Katniss gave the Mockingjay Pin to Primrose to keep her safe. Primrose gave it back to her to keep her safe.
The three-finger salute means hope and rebellion. We saw this when Roo died and Katniss did the three-finger salute. And then, her district did it and cried.

 Katniss Everdeen - Was when Primrose was drawn out at the repping then katniss volunteered to save her sister this shows how much she loves her sister  

Haymitch Abernathy - Mental challenges because of being in the hunger games. He just-drinks. He was scared and Depressed cause saw people dying and he killed people so he must have felt guilty his whole life.  

Peeta Mellark - He was jealous cause katniss got an 11 and he gotta 8 Why was it a problem when he got an 8 because he thought he would die. He trained hard with katniss and made alliances it shows that he put in more effort and didn't give up.

President Snow - Katniss and Peeta were going to eat poison berries, Let them both win he's a bad guy cause he only wanted them to live cause he can have victors.

Colour is used effectively to create atmosphere.
We see this in the two scenes - District 12 at the beginning and the capital as Katniss and Peeta arrive. In District 12 we see a natural palette of browns, greys and greens whereas in the Capital  people wear bright colours and a metallic palette of greys, silver and white is used this makes us understand that things in District 12 are dark, Old and Gloomy Whilst life in the capital easy, crowded and

Back in the old days like 1850 I've been struggling to get food I was as skinny as a pencil I was really desperate to get a job and finally pay taxes. but maybe I don´t wanna do it in London then later that day I saw a poster and that poster was written all over it, it said New Zealand had more opportunities.

I left for New Zealand on the 14th of May 1850. I had no idea what to expect except it was a hundred days by boat.

The trip was horrible because it was stormy windy I had only a little bit shelter I had a lot of food 

Quickly, i rushed into p.e saying sorry for being late


Near the ending of the quarter, the basketball got throwing against the wall

Point- Everyone knows it's better to read the book than watch the movie.
Evidence - For example , the movie made of Wonder is very different from the book. it leaves out lots of information. in the book the main teacher is female but in the movie they are male. also, the camp incident missed out the info about auggies hearing aide.

Explain- This incident made more sense in the book because he was bullied for having his lobo ears which made him look different. it didn't make sense to bully him in the movie without them.

Link- for these reasons, the book was clearly better than the movie. however you can enjoy the movie without reading the book

Chapter 9-12 Questions

John Marsden

John Marsden was born in Victoria, Australia in 1950.  He went to many different primary schools, and from an early age enjoyed the journeys into magical worlds that reading could provide.  His teachers in Grade 4 and Grade 6 encouraged him to write, and at the age of nine he decided he wanted to become an author.

For seven years he attended The King's School Parramatta, a strict military school in Sydney, and from there went on to the University of Sydney.  However, he soon decided that a career in law looked too boring, so he dropped out and drifted around for nearly 10 years, trying different jobs, and earning just enough money to support himself.

When he was 28, he began a teaching course, which he loved from the start. Embarking on a teaching career, he also became more and more interested in writing, and in 1987 succeeded in getting his first book, "So Much to Tell You", published.  A string of huge hits followed, highlighted by the Tomorrow series and Ellie chronicles. John has now sold more than 2 1/2 million books in Australia alone, but is an international best-seller, with many major awards to John's interest in education has never waned. In 1998 he bought the Tye Estate, 850 acres of natural bush, on the northern edge of Melbourne, and later added the property next door.  For eight years he ran enormously popular writers' courses and camps there before starting his own school Candlebark, in 2006.
